Since 2011, the Prime Eight Art League and Marwen have partnered to provide funding for free programs that serve under-served Chicago youth interested in the arts. All funds raised from our annual charity event and portions of our for profit projects go to the fine folks at Marwen.
Marwen was established in 1987 by Chicago entrepreneur Steven Berkowitz. An avid art collector, Steven believed that Chicago youth should have access to the same opportunities that his daughters, Marcy and Wendy, enjoyed when they were young.
Marwen’s first drawing course had just four students! Over the next 12 years, Marwen added many more classes as well as college and career planning. In 1999, Marwen had outgrown their small studio space and a $2.9M capital campaign was launched to renovate three floors of a nearby building. In January 2000, Marwen officially moved to 833 North Orleans Street!
Today, Marwen is a nationally recognized art education organization providing hundreds of free programs to thousands of under-served Chicago youth in grades 6-12 every year.
